The last week of the Anderson girls' golf season was very busy, but very successful.

The first match was held on Thursday, Oct. 22 at the Mt. Shasta Resort. This was the first time Shannon Westmoreland and Whitley Gibson played an 18-hole competition.

"Shannon had an awesome afternoon on the course. She started on the front nine shooting a solid 64. On the back nine she really started to heat up and recorded her personal best score of the season, shooting an impressive 59 for a total of 123," said Seth Longnecker, Anderson's girls' golf coach. "When I told her that her score was better than some of the boys' scores she could hardly contain her excitement."

According to Longnecker, Gibson held steady with the rest of the girls from the league teams and played consistently shooting a 70 on both the front and back nines.

On Monday, Oct.26, Anderson traveled to Lake Shastina Golf Resort for the NAL league finals.

"Westmoreland started a little slow with a 72 on the front, but she responded with a 66 on the back nine for a 138 total. I am extremely proud of her and the growth she made this season."

Gibson was again consistent, scoring in the 60s on both sides. She shot a solid 64 on the front nine, before giving up a few strokes on the back and shooting a 69 for a total of 133.

"Gibson has a lot to be proud of. She scored well enough throughout the season to be selected an Honorable-Mention All Northern Athletic League team member. It is a nice recognition for the sophomore, and hopefully she can build upon her recognition and have a great junior year as well," said Longnecker.

Both Gibson and Westmoreland have plans to return next season next season. According to their coach, both girls have been hanging around the golf course, even on the weekends, hitting balls and enjoying themselves.

"I have told them both that I expect them to be on the driving range during the spring when the boys have their season and they both are eager to attend," commented Longnecker.
