Cottonwood "mayor" to be announced at Soup Kitchen fundraiser in Cottonwood Saturday

Published Thursday, November 5, 2009

The sponsor who raised the most funds for their adopted nonprofit will win the title of honorary mayor of Cottonwood on Saturday, 6 p.m., at the Cottonwood Community Center's Soup Kitchen fundraiser. Votes to elect the winning honorary mayor are measured in dollars donated to each candidate's adopted organization.

With a variety of soups available from Cottonwood restaurants, attendees of the fundraiser may spend $5 for hot soup while hearing about non-profits in the race.

This year, Vic Woolery raised funds for Cottonwood Enrichment Council, Paul Walther raised funds for the Cottonwood Community Library, and Arnie Brinton raised funds for Cottonwood Citizens Patrol.

Last year's mayor was Jim Seale, who raised $19,519 for the Cottonwood Community Library to win the honor.

Proceeds from the soup sales benefit Cottonwood Community Center and Park, located at 20595 Gas Point Road.
