For those who are skeptical about anything free being too good to be true, there is a new community offering free live music every Friday evening in a coffee house setting.
The Way, a non-denominational church located at 2991 E. Center St., offers live music with no cover charge and a place for people to hang out on Friday nights. Doors open at 7 p.m. and music starts at 7:30 p.m.
"We offer a non-threatening environment where all seekers of truth and life are embraced," Pastor Darby Anderson said. "It is like no other church I've been to. If you are looking for something authentic and genuine, come and check out The Way."
At 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 7, The Way launched its weekly Saturday night services. The first series is entitled Love is a Verb and will last eight weeks.
"We'll be discussing what we're doing as a community and why we are doing it. We are challenged to live out Acts 2:42-47," Anderson said. "Before the words <I>church</I> or <I>Christian</I> were used, believers in Jesus were known as <I>The Way</I> because they were living a way of life not typical to society at large and even the established religious society."
Anderson said being a new church gives the freedom to explore what that looks like without having preconceived notions or traditions inhibiting.
In conjunction with the services, The Way will offer life groups that will meet weekly giving a chance to share life with members of the community. Once a month, the life groups will actively serve individuals or groups in the area.
"It's our heart to serve the people of the south county without an agenda in order to show people God's love," Anderson said. "It's about putting God's love into action. We are a community engaging in a way of life that reflects the love of God."
