The Anderson City Council voted unanimously on Tuesday to extend the city's moratorium on medical marijuana collectives for four more months, until April 4, 2010. The extra four months will allow the city planning commission to provide recommendations on classifying medical marijuana dispensaries, as well as medical marijuana cultivation, in the city's zoning code, Anderson Planning Director John Stokes said.
The council also directed city staff to pursue zoning ordinances to regulate medical marijuana as strictly as the law would allow.
While in favor of banning both medical marijuana collectives and the cultivation of medical marijuana, Mayor Butch Schaefer indicated he wanted to see the results of court rulings in other cities and counties before the city holds its hearing.
