Born in Redding and raised in Cottonwood, Alexis Herman has lofty goals for a 19-year-old. Each day, she gets up and goes to work for a towing firm in Redding. She then works exercising horses at a local ranch, then takes cosmetology instruction evenings at Marinello's School of Beauty.
The cosmetology program will take 14 months to complete. Herman is looking at receiving her certificate 10 months from now. She will then go to work for her mother at Mane Street Hair in Cottonwood.
Herman is chairman of the 2010 Cottonwood Rodeo Parade's organizing committee. Herman is looking forward to making changes in the parade itself, working with and giving back to the community as a whole. Putting together the Cottonwood Rodeo takes three-and-a-half months of hard work and meetings with others on the committee.
As part of organizing the Cottonwood Rodeo Parade, Herman will be working with a committee of approximately 10 people, doing clerical work with entry forms, organizing entries and line-ups for the day of the parade, finding judges and announcers for the parade. She will also take care of the ordering of awards for the participants. The biggest thing that Herman is looking forward to about the Cottonwood Rodeo Parade is seeing all of the hard work put into it become successful and making change for the better in future years.
There are approximately seven categories in the parade in which to enter.
Herman has been barrel racing on the California High School Rodeo Association District One team until last June. She continues to barrel race in Red Bluff and in Cottonwood at the Cottonwood Equestrian Center on the weekends
Herman is a 2009 graduate of West Valley High School in Cottonwood and is the daughter of Bill and Zeta Herman of Cottonwood.
