Shortly after Janet Applegarth-Yarbrough moved to Shasta County in 1971, she and her husband James Yarbrough founded Shasta Christian Academy in Redding. Applegarth-Yarbrough taught at the school for 28 years before moving on to other adventures in life. Five years ago, she began working at Regency Place Senior Apartments in Anderson as the Director of Social Services, helping to take care of the residents' paper work and arranging social events. And on Feb. 9, she became the manager of Regency Place Senior Apartments.
Applegarth-Yarbough has enjoyed every moment working at the senior complex. Over the years, she has found that its residents are very wise, knowledgeable and funny.
"The resident's share a lot of funny experiences and we laugh a lot together. I do what I can to brighten their day, but they always brighten my day more. I love my job. The company is the best one I have ever worked for," said Applegarth-Yarbrough.
As manager of Regency Place, Applegarth-Yarbrough signs in and out residents moving to and from the complex. She also helps with social services, walks the property each day to make sure things are going smoothly.
Applegarth-Yarbrough is also the 2010 President of the Anderson Chamber of Commerce and takes part in many community events. She is the President of the Shasta County Community Concerts Association, the Secretary for the Shasta County Arts Council Board, is a member of the Committee to Re-Elect Les Baugh for Supervisor, and is involved with Toys From the Heart, the Anderson Annual Street Fair Committee and is a judge for the Shasta County Idol contest each year at the Shasta District Fair.
Applegarth-Yarbrough is also an ordained minister. She attended the International Bible College in Texas from 1964 to 1967 before getting her Associates in Arts Degree in General Business.
In her spare time, Applegarth-Yarbrough enjoys reading, crossword puzzles, traveling and spending time on the beach when she can.
"I would love to be able to spend weekends at a beach watching the waves," said Applegarth-Yarbrough. "I love life and what I do. I am blessed to have the family and friends that I have, I am who I am because of my family. I have a wonderful heritage."
