At 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 10, the Shasta Women's Refuge will host Redding's third annual Walk A Mile in Her Shoes<0x00AE>, the international men's march to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence.
It is a unique opportunity for men to educate our community about a very serious subject and to rally our community to take action to prevent sexualized violence. Walk A Mile in Her Shoes<0x00AE> asks men to literally walk one mile in women's high-heeled shoes. The event starts and ends at the north end of Market Street Promenade.
The walk begins at 10 a.m. with pre-registration on Friday, April 9, from 3 p.m.-7-p.m. at Need 2 Speed and event-day registration starting at 9 a.m. Each participant who obtains $100 in donations will qualify for an event T-shirt.
Women and children are invited to participate and walk-on registrants are welcome. Proceeds from sponsored walkers support the Shasta Women's Refuge violence prevention efforts, and rape crisis services in Shasta County.
Walk A Mile in Her Shoes<0x00AE> informs the community that services are available for recovery. It demonstrates that men in Shasta County are willing and able to be courageous partners with women in making our community a safer place.
We are looking for Walk A Mile in Her Shoes<0x00AE> sponsors and men who would like to participate in walking.
