West Cottonwood Junior High School hosted the 2nd Annual Dale Hanson Invitational Softball/Baseball Tournament to open the 2010 season.

The home teams both posted early season victories to win the invitational that featured Shasta Lake Middle School, Happy Valley Middle School, and Parson's Junior High School.

In softball, first baseman Allyson Powers led the team in hitting, going 7 for 9, including a two run RBI. Emily Clendenen and Kayla Ruth Ferris both went 6 for 8 at bat. Katelynn Phillips' pitching helped secure the win versus Parson's. Other strong performances from the mound included Ruby Baldry, Sabrina Meeder, Helena Diaz and Emily Clendenen.

The West Cottonwood boys baseball team, coached by Rod Hovater, won the 2nd Annual Dale Hansen Baseball Tournament in Cottonwood.

Sean McComas, Riley Utvick, and Gio Lakmann pitched outstanding games to defeat Parsons, Shasta Lake City, and Happy Valley.

There was great hitting from Jonathan Fitch; Nathan Lucero and Brady Kincaid helped to put enough runs on the board to bring home a championship. This was a total team effort and the boys played as a team all through the tournament.

This is the second year that both the West Cottonwood softball and baseball teams have won the Dale Hansen Tournament.
