The Anderson girls had much to prove to themselves and to Central Valley after a sound beating by rival West Valley last Tuesday.
The Cubs (4-1 NAL, 16-7) and Falcons spent the first two periods battling it out and keeping the score close before Anderson pulled away in the second half.
Central Valley led 14-11 at the end of the first quarter.
Anderson picked it up in the second quarter both on offense and defense, fighting for rebounds and putting up 14 points. The Cubs were able to hold the Falcons to just nine points in the second quarter.
Anderson led 25-23 at the half.
Anderson then came out on fire in the third quarter, over powering the Falcons and keeping them to just two points. Meanwhile, the Cubs put up 21 points in the third, effectively silencing their foe.
By the time the forth quarter rolled around, Central Valley needed to make up a 21-point deficit and Anderson wasn’t about to let that happen.
The Falcons were only able to add eight points to their score, while the Cubs added another 13 to their tally.
Anderson won 59-33.
Katie Nunnelley ended the game with 15 points and eight rebounds, Fallon Greenhaw put up 13 points and four rebounds, and Jessica Lange had 10 points.
Celena Ragsdale had five rebounds and Emily English had six assists.
According to Coach Keith Krantz, Bindu Sidhu was back from a shoulder injury she sustained during the Jan. 17 game against Central Valley. Krantz added that Rachel Wilson is done for the year with a knee injury and they lost Ivy Wilson to grades.
“We have two freshmen we moved up and would be solid contributors if they had played with us all season, but they haven’t so they are just kinda floundering,” stated Krantz.
Despite everything, he is still hopeful the girls can snag a playoff spot. Krantz said if they win their remaining games they could get the No. 2 seed, but even if they only win one of their next three games, they would be the No. 3 seed.
The Cubs are No. 2 in the first set of playoff points, released Monday by the Northern Section.
West Valley is No. 1 in Division IV.
