Becky Pope’s physical education classes at Anderson New Technology High School have been at the Shasta District Fairgrounds the past two Tuesdays.

“Ron Peery, a parent of one of our students, offered the opportunity to us,” said Pope. “We took him up on it.”

According to Pope, the purpose of physical education classes is to expose students to life time sports and to find things that will get them outside.

She said that while the students are shooting indoors, an outdoor shoot would be more active and many of the students she brought had expressed an interest in archery.

Pope said a total of about 120 students would learn about archery.

“Many of the students don’t even know they are good at it or that they like it because they have never had the opportunity to try it,” stated Pope.

Pope said the freshman Jordan Hartzell showed a natural aptitude for the sport.

“This is my first time and its really fun,” said Hartzell, 14. “It didn’t take long to figure it out... It would be fun to compete.”

Pope said she was encouraged by exposing the students to archery because many had expressed an interest in starting an archery club at the high school.
