Your knowledge and opinions about two local watersheds are needed. As part of a grant provided by the California Department of Conservation, the Western Shasta Resource Conservation District (WSRCD) is holding a community meeting to gain input on draft Watershed Action Plans for Anderson Creek and Keswick Basin watersheds. The meeting will be held from 6 p.m.–8 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 25 at the WSRCD office located at 6270 Parallel Road in Anderson.
The plans were developed from input gained through citizen and agency surveys, and addresses issues such as storm water runoff, litter, invasive plant species and wildland fire danger. Possible projects that could improve water quality within the watersheds are identified. Meeting participants will be asked for input on the plans which are intended to aid the District in seeking funding to implement projects to improve the health of the watersheds.
The WSRCD is a special district of the State of California, and is funded entirely by grants and contracts. The mission of the WSRCD is to “Collaborate with willing landowners, government agencies and other organizations to facilitate the conservation and restoration of Western Shasta County’s natural resources.”
The district encompasses approximately 1.7 million acres bounded on the east by the watershed divide between eastern and western Shasta County; the north by the Siskiyou County line; the west by the Trinity County line; and the south by the Tehama County line. The district’s website can be viewed at www.westernshastarcd.org.
